A magnificent pair of 18th-century Italian altar candlesticks, richly carved in wood and finished in the traditional mecca technique â silver leaf laid over gesso and bole, then toned with a translucent amber glaze to create a warm, gilded lustre.
The baluster stems rise from scrolled tripod feet, their generous profiles and architectural rhythm typical of Northern Italian Baroque and early Rococo church furnishings. Each retains its original iron pricket and drip tray. The reverse sides are traditionally left plain, an authentic detail confirming their ecclesiastical origin.
